DREAM ON:
U.S. and Israelis Are Said to Talk of Hamas Ouster (STEVEN ERLANGER, 2/14/06, NY Times)
The United States and Israel are discussing ways to destabilize the Palestinian government so that newly elected Hamas officials will fail and elections will be called again, according to Israeli officials and Western diplomats.
Note the sources? This administration won't have anything to do with such nonsense. Opposing democracy for Arabs is what caused the current mess in the first place. Posted by Orrin Judd at February 14, 2006 7:39 AM
Honestly, how much effort is required to destabilize Palestinians anyway?

Posted by: erp at February 14, 2006 9:56 AMFor once I agree with OJ on this. The Hamas government should be left alone to reap the rewards of its behavior.

Posted by: Amy at February 14, 2006 12:35 PMThe story in a way is a companion piece to Al Gore's weekend rant in Saudi Arabia, in that it's designed to inflame the Arab states in general against the current administration. But all the U.S. has to do is hold Hamas to the requirments that it govern as required and doesn't try to skewer future elections, if it fails to provide the basic daliy services voters require of a government (unless you're among those who believe the Palestinians on a long term basis will support a government that fails to provide any services but terror attacks, which results in them facing Israeli retaliation on a daily basis).
