AS LONG AS THEY LEAVE THE HAIRY MOOSE OUT OF IT... (via Robert Schwartz):
Gonzaga Students Asked To Stop Yelling 'Brokeback Mountain' (February 13, 2006)
"We implore the students of the Kennel Club to show the nation this weekend what makes Gonzaga different," Kennel Club advisers David Lindsay and Aaron Hill wrote in a letter in the student newspaper, the Bulletin. "We challenge the students of the Kennel Club to exhibit the class, the creativeness and the competitive drive that has become a foundation of this great university."Fans of No. 5 Gonzaga have been asked to stop yelling "Brokeback Mountain" at opposing players. The reference to the recent movie about homosexual cowboys was chanted by some fans during Monday's game against Saint Mary's, and is apparently intended to suggest an opposing player is gay.
Is Saint Mary's mascot a cowboy? Posted by Orrin Judd at February 14, 2006 11:17 PM
But I thought it was okay to be gay. Maybe they're just complimenting their opponents - unless they are claiming thay can read minds.
Posted by: obc at February 14, 2006 11:53 PMIt's a Gael ... GAY-L ... get it?
Posted by: ghostcat at February 14, 2006 11:57 PMI believe Washington was where "The Wave" cheer got started in sports. Just consider this latest effort an attempt by youthful state residents to make amends for something their parents' generation started.
Posted by: John at February 15, 2006 12:10 AMWow, that is a completely tasteless but bitingly funny chant worthy of the Duke student section.
(PS You'd think these campus leaders would learn that urging the students to stop only makes it worse. Various school administrators used to implore my high school's student section to cut out our tasteless chants, too -- guess what effect that had?)

Could be that it's the same as a certain N-word, which is permitted only to those of the blood.
Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at February 15, 2006 5:23 AMThis whole discussion is just too gay.
Posted by: Lou Gots at February 15, 2006 6:39 AMDon't that just bugger all?
Posted by: Mike Morley at February 15, 2006 8:38 AMSure this country wants civil unions.
Posted by: Sandy P at February 15, 2006 10:15 AMMaybe they could chant "Andrew Sullivan" instead.
