the stage is being set, the audience prepared. first they allow pictures of cheney on a cane to be released, then a report of cheney going into the hospital. look for the hand-over to take place over the summer, giving the GOP a nice boost in the mid-term elections. DH indeed.

Man, I wish it to be.

Who'll take over state then?

Aieee! Please not McCain.

I think State's the perfect place for McCain. He's as well liked as Powell but with more backbone, and it would keep him from monkeying with the 1st Amendment in the wake of Abramoff.

It's unlikely to happen, though, as a) it might be hard for him to campaign for '08 from Foggy Bottom, and b) he'd be replaced by a Democrat.

If Clinton had had the moral character (yeah, right!!) to do the right thing and resign, Gore would have been President and would have be easily re-elected in 2000. It would have been the right thing for him to have done if he had cared a whit about his party.

Just like Bush41 was elected because people saw him as a continuation of the popular president (Reagan) that he was VP for.

In the present case, we know that Cheney won't run in 2008, so the nomination will be up for grabs. BUT....if (when?) Cheney resigns or dies soon, the new VP will have served under a popular president (Dubya) for 2-3 years, and will likely be handily elected in 2008.

Soooooooo....Dubya arguably has the opportunity to effectively select the next President, just like the Mexico of old.
Fun fun fun. I'm going to kick back in my easy chair, hoist a beer, and enjoy the show!

Leak Jeb's name then nominate Rice.

fred, if Democrats had high moral fiber they would have given Clinton the choice of resigning after he was impeached or being convicted on the charge of lying under oath. Either way, Gore would have been in.

I could never understand why they all trooped out to give Clinton a vote of confidence after the impeachment vote.
