ANOTHER ROVEBOT:

Case Will Challenge Akaka For Senate Seat (Brent Suyama, 1/19/06, TheHawaiiChannel.com)

Hawaii Rep. Ed Case announced on Thursday that he will run against fellow Democrat Sen. Dan Akaka this fall.

Ideal for the GOP as Case makes the case that Akaka is too old but even if he wins the party faithful resent him.

Interesting. Case isn't really a part of the Democratic Party machinery in HI. He must be calculating that when Akaka decides to go, the party will line up behind someone else, so he needs to make a pre-emptive strike. But he has no chance to win here, and must know that. So this must mean that he knows that soon Inouye will be gone too, and he'll be high in the public consciousness from this run, so he'll be the frontrunner for that Senate seat...
