YOU MEAN WE WON'T ALL BE SELLING APPLES ON STREET CORNERS?:

Next year's economy: The forecast brightens (Ron Scherer, 12/05/05, The Christian Science Monitor)

The economic gloom cast in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the subsequent run-up in energy prices are subsiding. In its place are brighter prospects for 2006, considered a year of slowdown just three months ago.

That means America could enter a fifth year of economic expansion with solid growth, nearly on pace with this year.

So the Democrats Plan A, to the extent they had one, was to run in '06 against George Bush's Hooveresque economy and his insistence on keeping American troops in Iraq as part of his permanent oil empire. What's Plan B?

Hope Karl Rove's weather machine goes haywire next fall and sends a torrent of hurricanes down on the major urban centers on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.

Oh, and an earthquake in California, too.

Zoom in on academic centers. That's where the worst of them hang out.

The "natural" disasters have to be carefully timed though. Academics don't work bankers hours you know. They're only in town for a couple of hours a week for a dozen or so weeks at a time.

It'll be tricky, but Rove can do, though he better get the plan finalized quickly. Fitzgerald is after him again.

The economy's been zooming since early 2003, hasn't stopped the doom and gloomers yet.

As for Iraq, we're already seeing a preview of the Dems future line with regard to the stories about Iraqis torturing prisoners.

When we start drawing down troops in 06 the Dems will claim that (a) we're doing it b/c we've conceded defeat and (b) as evidence of this will play up every little difference between Iraq and say Switzerland and claim that Iraq under a democratic gvt is no different then Iraq under Saddam. 2,000 American lives wasted blah blah blah.

So terribly predictable.

Hope the WH is prepared to get out in front on this tho.

Actually, it's been growing since 2002.
