Clarke orders inquiry after robber freed to kill (LAURA ROBERTS, 12/20/05, The Scotsman)

CHARLES Clarke, the Home Secretary, has announced an urgent investigation into why a violent robber and convicted drug dealer was released on parole to kill the financier John Monckton.

Damien Hanson, 24, was granted parole after partially completing a 12-year prison sentence for attempted murder - even though parole board members had never met him.

The process of interviewing offenders had been scrapped four months previously.

Three months later, Hanson fatally stabbed John Monckton and seriously injured his wife, Homeyra, at their home in Chelsea, London.

Hanson had been in and out of prison since the age of 14 and an official assessment had put his chances of reoffending at 91 per cent.

Ah, the tender sensibilities of the Euros--so instead of executing their Hansons they collaborate in the murder of their Moncktons.

Not that they have any genuine regard for life, Drink deaths jump 350% in 20 years (HAMISH MACDONELL, 12/20/05, The Scotsman)

THE extraordinary rise in Scotland's alcohol culture was exposed in new figures published yesterday, which showed a massive 350 per cent rise in drink- related deaths in the last 20 years.

In 1984, 597 Scots died from alcohol-related illnesses. By last year this had risen to 2,052: 1,515 men and 537 women.

Freedom and Whisky is a very interesting Scot blog.

I've learned a lot.

That's why I'll be keeping a gun at hand even if the left in America somehow finds a way to outlaw them.

Where is Brit?

This story underscores my point regarding the "flipside" of the death penalty issue.

Euros wring their hands over our death penalty yet seem oblivious to the mayhem and murder of innocent people.

It is stories like this that make one want to argue for the death penalty for "attempted murder".

Imagine the deterrent!

Regardless, this takes the mask off the argument that they are concerned for the "innocent."

The funny thing is they then insist that they agree such problems should be "fixed" but will allow no leeway to death penalty supporters who agree the ru;les should be tweaked.

I wonder what the logic behind scrapping the need to meet with the prisoner before paroling him was and how they justified that one!! Now they are going to investigate this. Little late for Mr Monckton and his family.

I remember reading about this when it happened. The guy answered the door and got killed on the spot and his wife wounded as well. There were little kids involved. The police said that he must have tried to fight them and that the citizens should just give them what they want and the robbers will just go away. First they take away the weapons from the citizens and then tell the citizens to just give it all up in case they are attacked. And this is the country where a man's home is his castle??? What happened to their spines and whyever did they think they could justify this kind of policing and judicial inaction?

I find this whole thing ludicrous and very troubling. I hope we never get to that point in this country, although our LLL betters are trying their damnedest. Now the LLL are planning to all show up at the Tookie funeral today in South Central Los Angeles to eulogize that murderer and try to get rid of death penalty and the rest of our legal protections.

Every time I hear one of My Enlightened Betters using his Superior Intellect (TM) that way, I have this image of a Jurassic Park velociraptor screeching "Prey is running! Chase and Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!"

That is how a predator thinks. If you're not threat, you're prey. And if the prey goes down too easy, there's a little phenomenon called "Surplus Killing" that kicks in.

Tip: Don't go bragging to Kzinti about being a Vegan Pacifist.
