EL:ECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES...EVEN RIGGED ONES:

Staff Opinions Banned In Voting Rights Cases: Criticism of Justice Dept.'s Rights Division Grows (Dan Eggen, December 10, 2005, Washington Post)

The Justice Department has barred staff attorneys from offering recommendations in major Voting Rights Act cases, marking a significant change in the procedures meant to insulate such decisions from politics, congressional aides and current and former employees familiar with the issue said.

By which they mean that it's meant to empower the permanent self-interested bureaucracy at the expense of the electorate.

Uh, right. And from 1993 to 2001, the Civil Rights Division was untouched by political motives.

The problem for the left with the photo ID issue is that probably 80% of the electorate would have no disagreement with such a requirement. Showing a picture is not a tax, no matter what a federal judge rules. How much more would they squeal if GA required proof of residency (i.e., a utility bill or something beyond even a simple state ID card)?

I would say that 95% of the voting fraud problems today are on the Democratic side, perhaps even 100%. So they have a lot to lose. Another reason they are in knots over the coming changes at SCOTUS. I still remember Sandra Day O'Connor's question in the Bush v. Gore case, when she asked Gore's attorney why the simple wording stated on the placards at FL polling places (instructing voters to check their ballots) wasn't enough? Only the professional left is going to dispute that point.
