STOP HELPING, MA (via Robert Schwartz):
Alito Strong Conservative on Liberal Court (THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, October 31, 2005)
Alito's mother, Rose, who will turn 91 in December, spent Monday fielding congratulatory telephone calls from her home in Hamilton, N.J., a Trenton suburb. ''I'm so excited I can't even express myself,'' she said.Posted by Orrin Judd at November 1, 2005 8:22 AMMore candid that her son might wish, she said, ''I think he was upset that he didn't get there in the first shot, that Miers got it.'' That was a reference to Bush's choice of Harriet Miers, since withdrawn.
If confirmed, Alito would be the fifth Catholic on the Supreme Court. ''Of course he's against abortion,'' his mother said, another comment supporters in Washington might wish she'd held back.
Let's see the Dems use that one in an issue ad!

Posted by: Patrick Phillips at November 1, 2005 8:43 AMPerhaps in AP World Mrs. Alito's comment is something to submerge. But in the US it's about where 60%+ of Americans are. So Rose is batting .500.
Posted by: Luciferous at November 1, 2005 9:24 AMYou'll know things are really going bad for the Democrats if Pat Leahy subpoenas her to testify at the Judiciary Committee hearings.
Posted by: John at November 1, 2005 9:37 AMWell, they tried suborning Newt's mom, so this is par for the course.
It would be a hoot to see Mrs. Alito tell Pat Leahy that he should listen to Dick Cheney more often.
Posted by: jim hamlen at November 1, 2005 11:03 AMshe is providing a nice cover story for the miers charade. very subtle too..."he was miffed at being picked second". wily sicilians.
