WHY NOT GIVE THE 13% VOUCHERS INSTEAD?:
Many private schools taking vouchers teach creationism (S.V. Date, October 09, 2005, Palm Beach Post)
Even though Florida's public school standards require the teaching of evolution and not creationism, millions of dollars in state money goes to teach the story of biblical creation, thanks to the state's voucher programs.Schools taking public money from any of the state's three voucher programs are not bound by the Sunshine State Standards, which all public schools must follow and be graded on each year with the
"Many of the parents bring their kids here because they want a Christian education," said Frederick White, principal at Mount Hermon Christian School, where about a dozen of the 115 students are using vouchers. "And a Christian education does not include evolution."
About 25 percent of voucher-taking schools are nonreligious, and others are religious schools that apply the state's science standards, including instruction in evolutionary biology. But many — perhaps even most — of the 1,100 participating schools are of evangelical Christian denominations that teach the biblical story of creation in six days as literal truth.
Doesn't it make more sense, and isn't it more consistent with American ends, to teach the popular view of evolution in public schools and let the Darwinists send their kids to secular schools if they so desire? Posted by Orrin Judd at October 12, 2005 12:09 PM
"But many — perhaps even most — of the 1,100 participating schools are of evangelical Christian denominations that teach the biblical story of creation in six days as literal truth."
Note the deceptive language here. "Many, perhaps even most" clearly means they had no evidence, had done no investigation, and were making it up. It is also obvious that they did not actually bother to find out what these schools were teaching, but only assume, because they were associated with evangelicals, they must teach creation.

Bah: I was raised in a private Christian school, and received a very thorough education in both Evolution and Creationism, including the little illogical tricks and gimmicks used by both sides to defend their points of view. WE learned to be skeptical about all claims, religious AND secular, and learned how to dig for answers rather than take what was told to us at face value.
The upshot: A math professor tried to arrange an evolution/creation debate with one of the Biology professors at the state university, with me arguing the Creationist side. He had to give up: he had no one willing to go up against me.
