THERE'S ALWAYS TIME FOR THESE CALLS:

Bush thanks outgoing Schroeder in phone call (Expatica, 14 October 2005)

U.S. President George W. Bush telephoned outgoing German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder Thursday to thank him for his service and to offer his best wishes for the years ahead.

Why didn't Mr. Zapatero think of this?

He probably also offered Gerhard a weekend for two at the finest hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Maybe he's lining him up to fill the enlightened Europeanist seat on the Supreme Court once Breyer quits.
