Protester Sheehan Presses Clinton To Withdraw Support for War (JACOB GERSHMAN, September 19, 2005, NY Sun)

War protester Cindy Sheehan came to New York last night with a blunt warning for Senator Clinton: End your support for the war in Iraq or else.

Visiting New York City for the first time since leaving her campsite outside President Bush's vacation ranch in Crawford, Texas, Ms. Sheehan told a packed audience in a Brooklyn church that Mrs. Clinton "knows the war is a lie" but because of her political ambitions refuses to voice any opposition.

Mrs. Clinton is "waiting for the best political moment to say" she opposes the war, Ms. Sheehan said during a 15-minute speech. "You say it or you're losing your job," she said, provoking a roar of approval from the audience. Mrs. Clinton, believed to be a possible presidential contender in 2008, has said she supports the war in Iraq and has pushed for a greater troop presence in the country.

In an interview after her speech, Ms. Sheehan said she has requested a meeting with Mrs. Clinton but has not gotten a reply.

How much press coverage would she get if she set up camp in Chappaqua?

Thank God you are there to speak the TRUTH, not only to this administration but to the Democratic party apoligists for it as well!

GO CINDY! Don't be silenced! Don't be hushed! Speak LOUDLY and LONGLY so we ALL can hear you!

Make ESPECIALLY sure those fascists in the Democratic Party hear you.

Perhaps Bill Clinton should try to seduce her. It might not really be news, but it would be an interesting twist. Hillary might not even mind.

jim, are you nuts? Look at a photo of her! Even the Raper-in-Chief has his standards!

Karl Rove maskirova--has to be. Too perfect.

What this kind of thing does is to keep the Democrats erschuettert--rattled, off balance, reacting blindly with no plan.

OBC: The only standard Clinton ever demonstrated was one for fat.

The NYPD pulled the plug on Momma Cindy tonight, and hustled her offstage. They know a flaming hemorrhoid when they see one. No word on where she is going next.

Myself, I would love to see a joint appearance with Tereza.

Dying to know how you grownups are making sense of the British spies who dressed like Arabs and started lighting up a crowd of civilians.

And--Orrin--why the Shi'ite Mehdi Army are engaging in running battles with the British if the Shi'ites are "our guys."

Always interesting to see rationalization from the mind of a master. Though even the OJ might be overtaxed explaining WTF is going on.

Rick: Say what? British spies dressed as Arabs shot up Cindy Sheehan's photo op? Wow! The mainstream press completely ignored it! They really must be in Rove's hip pocket. It's all part of the grand conspiracy: Diebold voting machines, black helicopters, fluoride in the water, Jeff Gannon, Valerie Plame, 4,000 Jews skipping work on 9/11, . . . .

Oh. I see now. You're introducing an unrelated topic into the thread because you have nothing intelligent to say about the topic at hand.

Never mind.

Where are the hardhats when you need them....

Posted by: oj at September 20, 2005 7:16 AM

Because they want us out of their country--same reason we shot at the British.

Mr. Schwartz:
Yeah, I was gonna say Cindy Sheehan doesn't have enough junk in the trunk to turn the eye of the Chubby Chaser in Chief.

The more interesting bit is that Sheehan effectively admits the greater popularity of the "pro-war" faction vs. her own by claiming political ambition as Senator Clinton's motivation.

Caught a bit of O'Reilly last night interviewing a Democratic operative from Boston, don't remember her name. She bravely tried to make the case that Hillary's refusal to see Sheehan is good for her because it shores up her pro-war stance. She repeated it several times. Finally O'Reilly said, let me get this straight, you think Hillary shouldn't meet with Sheehan, but the president of the United States should meet with her? Then he started laughing and the notion was so ridiculous, she started laughing too.

Then he wished her Godspeed to return to her Democrat friends and enjoy a nice dinner.

Sometimes I think we overuse leftwing moonbat and other silly descriptions of the disloyal opposition, but jeepers, their behavior is so laughable, what choice do we have?

I thought ran the Democratic Party?

"I thought ran the Democratic Party?"

That is very witty and incisive. What does it have to do with what erp wrote?

Posted by: Robert Schwartz [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 20, 2005 1:28 PM

Robert, at least Perlstein signs his name and perhaps if he sticks around here long enough, he'll learn how to have a polite give and take on the issues.

The topic here is Sheehan's demands that Hillary condemn Bush for waging what she sees as an illegal war. I predict that now that she's goring an ox of the left, she'll disappear off the radar and never be heard of again.

Posted by: erp at September 20, 2005 1:39 PM

Actually, Hillary's refusal to see Sheehan probably does boost her pro-war stance, and helps her in the long run with moderates in 2008. And since most in the media and the non-looney wing of the Democratic Party know this, if Cindy continues staging conflicts with the NYPD in Union Square while trying to call out Mrs. Clinton, she may suddenly find herself in the women's wing on Riker's Island and garnering as much urgent concern and publicty about it from the big media outlets as they're showering on Judith Miller right now.
