LONG PAST TIME:

Televangelist calls for Chavez' death (Associated Press, 8/23/05)

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

That's why God gave us Predators.

If we start trying to kill Chavez, it is perfectly legitimate for Chavez to retaliate against American leaders.

Robertson has seen to many bad movies.

He was already ousted once. Doing so a second time will be immeasurably harder. Why the coup plotters didn't finish him off before any of them (or any local US officials) could get cold feet is beyond me...

Bartelson:

Why isn't it legitimate for our enemies to attack us now?

It's not legitimate to hit a Chavez or a Castro first because our enemies always get one free hit. (And once they've been around long enough, they, like the beard or the Iranians, get lots of little free hits, too.) Osammy's mistake was making his freebie big enough to be noticed, but not big enough to further his cause.

Bartelson: Agreed that Robertson is a twit, but do you really think Chavez, or Castro, or Kim, or any other tyrant has any compunction about killing? If he shows reluctance to attack the US, it's from fear of retaliation or a lack of resources, not from any sense of restraint or morality.
