OUTLASTED ANOTHER ONE:

At N.A.A.C.P. Helm, an Economic Approach to Rights (JAMES DAO , 7/05/05, NY Times)

When the N.A.A.C.P. recently announced plans to make Bruce S. Gordon, a retired Verizon executive, its new president, the reaction from some longtime civil rights activists was, "Bruce who?"

But black business leaders cheered, loudly.

"Like the excitement around the election of Barack Obama, Bruce Gordon will generate excitement in corporate America," said Earl G. Graves Sr., the founder and publisher of Black Enterprise magazine, referring to the black United States senator from Illinois. [...]

Mr. Gordon, 59, has said he will apply his 35 years experience in corporate marketing to push the N.A.A.C.P. toward a more economic-based approach to civil rights, including by prodding pension funds and corporations to hire more black managers. He has said he will also raise money for an endowment, setting a goal of $200 million.

If they were a Negro Leagues baseball team they'd be called the Colored Chamber of Commerce.

Not exactly. The NAACP is and alway was a mulatto organization. As such they and their children are the principal beneficiaries of quota-mongering. It is the half-castes who get the educational and vocational billets set aside for the supposedly disadvantaged.

Practically every dark skinned person in the United States is a mulatto. The only true Negroes are émigrés from Sub-Saharan Africa or possibly Haiti where there was very little mingling of races.

If what you mean is middle class and even upper class Blacks are taking full advantage of the quota/affirmative action giveaway, you're right, they are.

Unfortunately the disadvantaged are far too unprepared to even attempt admission to higher education and on the rare occasion they are admitted, the results are heart wrenching. They are so far above their heads, they may as well be dropped in a deep pool water when they not only can't swim, they don't even know what the word, swim, means.

The place to start affirmative action is in kindergarten, but that'll never happen because if the disadvantaged rise above their humble beginning, what would happen to civil servants, the poverty pimps and all the others who make a very nice living perptuating the myth courtesy of us generous taxpayers.

Do we recall the history of the N.A.A.C.P.? It was once very much a "light-skinned" organization. Negroes (that's what they called themselves way back when) used to have a saying, "If you're white, you're right; is you're brown, stay around; if you're black, get back."

Had not white racists insisted on their Nurenburg Law-like "one-drop" rule, the history of race relations in America would have been very different.
