I JUST KNOW MARXISM WILL WORK THIS TIME:
Leftists mount a new challenge to Schröder (Judy Dempsey, JULY 4, 2005, International Herald Tribune)
Chancellor Gerhard Schröder's campaign to be elected a third time suffered a setback Sunday when a new leftist party in Western Germany voted to join forces with the former communist party of Eastern Germany, the Party of Democratic Socialists.
At special congress in this western German city, the Labor and Social Justice Party, founded by unionists and Social Democrats who had become disillusioned with Schröder's economic policies, said the new grouping would reverse the so-called neo-liberal market-oriented policies of the coalition government. A campaign name for the party has not been decided.

Oh, THAT'LL help Germany with their unemployment and looming pension problems...
When approaching an iceberg, the proper technique is to slow down, not accelerate, especially if you don't have any lifeboats.
How about the "Light Brigade Party" ?
Posted by: Michael Herdegen at July 4, 2005 12:46 PMNo, they should be the "Canutes".

I must take issue with you.
When the Titanic crow's nest spotted the Iceberg, First Officer Murdoch ordered "Hard a' Starboard" AND "Full Reverse".
The result was, as the official commission report ruled, that the ship began to turn, but was turning far too slowly and thus hit the berg.
It is widely believed that had Murdoch ordered the turn, while holding at full speed ahead, the ship would have responded fast enough to clear the iceberg. Or, if he had slowed the ship down but not turned at all, she would have hit the berg head-on, damaging the forepeak, but without sinking the ship as the broadside slice did.
Thus, the combination order was the worst possible decision.
All of which has absoulutely nothing to do with Germany, but I thought I'd toss it in for fun.

Posted by: cjm at July 4, 2005 6:46 PMNAME: National Social Justice Party.
MOTTO: "Ramming Speed"
National Bocialist Party. They could even run that nice Mr. Bitler from up the road, though Mr. Bimmler is a bit naughty.
All kidding aside this has been a long overdue development. The hard left needs to coalesce in Germany so the adults can ignore them and get on with actual governance. An umbrella organization which unites Greens, former DDR Communists, and the left wing of the SPD together in one freakshow of a party, which would garner about 20% of the national vote, would be helpful. It would push the remaining SPD to the center perhaps forcing it to dissolve into the CDU-CSU and the FDP.

Posted by: David Cohen at July 5, 2005 7:30 AMIt'll become a majority party rather quickly if it just adds racial policy. The aging population doesn't want reform, just more welfare.
