Lincoln Memorial video may be revised (MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN, 7/01/05, Associated Press)

The National Park Service has been out buying video footage of conservative rallies as it struggles to respond to a new civil war over a historical film shown at the Lincoln Memorial. [...]

The service has spent about $20,000 revamping the video and buying footage - including some from The Associated Press - after conservative political groups organized a campaign of petitions and e-mails demanding changes.

"The video gave the impression that Lincoln would have supported abortion and homosexuality," said the Web site of Rev. Louis Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition. It cited footage showing rallies at the memorial by abortion and gay rights supporters and war opponents but no similar footage from Christian and conservative interests.

"Absent from the video were any Promise Keepers marches or Marches for Jesus rallies at the capital. The video was totally skewed to present only a leftist viewpoint," the Web site said. Andrea Lafferty, executive director of Sheldon's group, said Thursday, "The department knows there's a problem and we don't know why they haven't dealt with it in a timely manner."

Things were so much simpler when the Right could be ignored...

It's about time the United States Park Service and every other public service area of our government disconnects from liberal politics.

It's bad enough that almost every movie and television program has the gratuitous throw-away line, innuendo, and even down right blatant leftwing propaganda without being assaulted by the Norman Lear/Michael Moore world view at our national parks and monuments.

Having worked around NPS types, the problem is that they don't know any other opinions exist. And the NPS is an organization in which if you rock the boat with independent thinking, you get tossed overboard immediately. (You wouldn't believe how down everyone I knew there was in '93 when they finally realized that even with freedom from 12 years under the control of the Evil GOP, the Dems were passing the same budgets and coming up with the same policies.)

Aside from anything else, right-wingers have real jobs and families, and can't take the time to demonstrate against much...

Wow! No foolin', I saw this video about eight years ago when I visited the Memorial, and I remember thinking that the film focused heavily on abortion rights, feminist, and gay rights rallies. I don't remember seeing any conservative causes represented at all, although to be fair conservatives and organized political protesting just don't go well together.
