FOX Poll: Congress 'Out of Touch'; Majority Supports Renewing Patriot Act (Dana Blanton, June 16, 2005, FOX News)

Over half of voters think Congress is out of touch with the country, and fewer than one-in-five believe Congress has passed legislation this year that would improve the quality of life for Americans. Clear majorities think the Patriot Act is good for the country and support extending the legislation, which is set to expire at the end of the year. In addition, more than twice as many voters oppose closing the military prison at Guantanamo Bay as support closure. These are just some of the findings from the latest FOX News nationwide poll of voters.

Once again, Democrats staking their future on the 30% positions.

The right just doesn't make it's case to the public like it should. The MSM is clearly on the left and they get the coverage. The right needs bigger hammers and tongs and balls to use them. Congress is asleep at the switch.

Interestingly enough, the witless Durbin and some other yoyo's are helping the right by default but still they need to make the case. Am I wrong?

I think the best way to deal with these outrageous statements is to basically ignore them. If the White House wants to issue a statement, it should be what Bush said last week. The accusations are absurd.

If asked by reporters about Durbin's ranting, Republican leaders should shrug it off the same way. Denunciations, demands for apologies, etc. only keeps the media on it week after week. If senators or congressmen see a problem, let them hold a hearing where they can ask questions and make statements in a venue where there are rules of behavior.

By reacting the way we have over the past months, we're enabling them to keep us dancing to their tune over and over again. Enough already!

Oh, come on, we're not made of stone. If our opponents are going to step on rhetorical rakes, how can we not laugh?
