SELF-TARRED:
Coleman compared to Sen. McCarthy by British legislator (Kevin Diaz and Rob Hotakainen, May 13, 2005, Minneapolis Star-Tribune)
A day after Sen. Norm Coleman implicated a member of Parliament in a U.N. oil-for-food scheme, the British legislator shot back Thursday in a cross-Atlantic exchange of words. The legislator, George Galloway, likened Coleman to the late U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy, a characterization that sets the scene for a televised confrontation on Capitol Hill Tuesday, one that could further raise the Minnesota Republican's profile
Geez, Galloway isn't just a Ba'athist but a Communist? Posted by Orrin Judd at May 16, 2005 9:35 AM
When Kofi goes down, the wailing will really start. And look for the slurs against Coleman to get ugly.
Posted by: jim hamlen at May 16, 2005 1:49 PMGalloway's probably absorbed years of Hollywood and liberal intellecutal prattle about the McCarthy era and thinks if he comes over here and says it, the population will be shocked into outrage by the mere mention of the former Wisconsin senator's name. I'd say the odds are 50-50 he tries to mimic Joseph Welch's speech at some point during his testimony to the committee.
Posted by: John at May 16, 2005 3:43 PMWell, Galloway did say that the fall of the Soviet Union was a great disaster, or something similar. I doubt very much that he was ever a card carrying member of the Communist party, but there's no doubt that he was cheering for the other side all through the Cold War.

Posted by: Genecis at May 17, 2005 3:43 PMGalloway called the collapse of the Soviet Union "biggest catastrophe of my life".
From what I hear tonight sadly, the Galloway appearance before the committee seems to have become a "score draw", perhaps with Galloway getting the best of it.Very disappointing. The questioning seemed not only mild, but poorly thought through. A missed opportunity!
For a lot of Galloway questions, Harry's Place is a good place to check :
