DO YOUR DUTY:

Thousands protest against Mubaraks rule in Egypt (Al Jazeera, 5/5/2005)

Egyptian security forces fired tear gas and clashed with thousands of demonstrators staging protests nationwide yesterday demanding the end of President Hosni Mubarak’s rule, arresting more than 400 people.

Pro-reforms activists have escalated their campaign in recent weeks, calling for constitutional and political reforms in Egypt, and demanding President Mubarak to step down when his mandate expires later this year.

About 2,500 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood group and supporters gathered in front of a large downtown mosque, waving copies of the Qur’an and chanting, "Reform is a religious necessity, reform is Prophet's way."

One of the banners read, "Freedom is a religious duty."

The protests, which coincided with the Egyptian president’s 77th birthday, come as the latest show of strength by the Brotherhood, Egypt's largest opposition movement.

Middle Eastern dictators must think it possible to be just a little bit pregnant too.

Depends on your religion, not if Islam means submission.

Don't worry Mubarak...Gorbachev can tell you all about controlling these things once they're underway.

No one can be free without submission to God.
