GIVE US THE CHILD... (via AWW):
Lexington school calls cops on dad irate over gay book (Laura Crimaldi, April 28, 2005, Boston Herald)
Police arrested a Lexington father who refused to leave the Joseph Estabrook School yesterday after school officials rejected his demands that his 6-year-old son be shielded from any discussions about gay households.David Parker, 42, confronted officials after his son brought home ``Who's in a Family,'' a storybook that includes characters who are gay parents.
Yesterday, Parker refused to leave a meeting after Lexington Superintendent Bill Hurley rejected his demand that he be notified when his son is exposed to any discussion about same-sex households as part of classroom instruction.
``Our parental requests for our own child were flat-out denied,'' Parker said in a statement.
It's not a culture war though. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 29, 2005 12:48 PM
I suspect the principal (superintendant?) in this matter will not have his job very long, although being in MA, who knows?
And will we see lawsuits based on the fact that school taxes support this? Or will there be a backlash against paying school taxes at all?
Posted by: jim hamlen at April 29, 2005 1:21 PMThe learned reactionaries of the bench haven't quite figured out that gay liberation is of the essence of Christianity, just like the Episcopal Church teaches. But once they realize that, they'll have to start upholding lawsuits over this sort of thing, because everybody knows you can't spend tax dollars on anything that anybody could possibly construe as Christian proselytism. Right?

Posted by: jefferson park at April 29, 2005 4:05 PMHere's a thought, appropriate to this outrage but allpied in another context, I found on another blog.
"As a former slave, Frederick Douglas had no illusions about ruling classes. His words of 1857 still apply today:
“Power concedes nothing without a demand... It never did... and it never will... Find out just what the people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

PS - Mr. Lewis' original context was the impending victory of the swine over the bovines in the EU.
Posted by: Luciferous at April 29, 2005 4:15 PMRandom - good strategy. All we have to do is turn Christianity into its opposite, and we'll be all set. However, what if the left then reverses its position, and proclaims that the living Constitution requires the establishment of Christianity?

A little chest and imagination, please. We would take over the ACLU and march.
Posted by: Peter B at April 29, 2005 7:52 PMThat reminds me, I'd like to propose an addition to the Glossary:
Spongozoid (n.) : a follower or acolyte of the renegade Anglican cleric John Shelby Spong; did you hear what happened in Lexington? What a bunch of Spongozoids.
Spongozoidal (adj.) : like a Spongozoid in outlook or manner; Calm down, dude, don't go all Spongozoidal on me.
How dare this guy inject his private morality against the wishes of the education bureacracy. All they are trying to do is equate homosexuality with heterosexuality and get it into childrens heads as early as possible. What enlightened person could argue with that? Proof that the self-described and tax payer funded elite know what's best for us all.
Posted by: Tom C., Stamford, Ct. at April 30, 2005 9:31 AMThere's always religious education and homeschooling, if mobilizing parents doesn't work. And usually no one cares what parents do, because such decisions are made by fairies in State and Federal Departments of Education all across America.
