CAN ANYONE LOAN US A BIBLE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS?

Same-sex blessings halted (Toronto Star, April 29th, 2005)

Canada's Anglican bishops have passed unanimously a resolution to put a two-year moratorium on future church blessings of same-sex relationships.

The decision, reached after three days of debate at a closed-door conference session, will halt the ritual for two years to give church leaders time to study how it relates to the official doctrine of the faith, Archbishop Andrew Hutchison said.

It's going to take 2 years to figure this out??? How much time would they need to conclude that murder, rape & child molestation are also against church theology?

They are facing expulsion by the global Anglican communion if they continue, and at the recent Anglican conference they were given (I think) three years to fix this before the breach becomes irreparable. This is their olive branch in reply. They'll still have to make up their minds between their loyalties - no gays and stay Anglican, or gays and schism.

Pj:

Make no mistake, they will go for schism, especially here. Can there be any doubt that the "three days of debate" were anything other that moderate liberals desperately trying to hold off the radicals in hopes that the opposition would go away, or be educated through a workshop programme, or die off?

Prayers to B16, but one really has to wonder whether anyone other than the Africans are capable of stopping the rot?

Who owns and controls the physical church in case of schism is a fascinating legal question, with, in the US, First Amendment overtones. Now we'll get to litigate it a couple hundred times.

Welathier, more conservative congregations will make one of two choices - sue, and force the diocese to litigate (or surrender the property), or they will leave quietly and just build their own buildings on their own property. Many congregations have already done this.

Either way, the mother ship is weaker, poorer, and more corrupt.

The real money in the WCC denominations is in the hands of the lefties. How much money does the Anglican Church of Zimbabwe raise? About $5, a couple of shrunken heads and an autographed picture of Robert Mugabe. Like all religious institutions, I expect the final decision will be one which pleases those who hold the current purse strings, and current membership dissatisfied with the choice will have to move on elsewhere.
