France reacted with muted frustration Tuesday to the release of a videotaped plea for help from a French journalist held hostage in Iraq, underscoring the government's growing sense of helplessness in keeping its citizens out of a war that it vehemently opposes.

Well, the force de frappe isn't going to do much good against the Islamist devils, anyway. Chirac will just have to get into the dirt.
