France put on the spot as hostage makes plea (Craig S. Smith, March 2, 2005, The New York Times)

France reacted with muted frustration Tuesday to the release of a videotaped plea for help from a French journalist held hostage in Iraq, underscoring the government's growing sense of helplessness in keeping its citizens out of a war that it vehemently opposes.

You can almost hear them saying: "C'mon, even Hitler left us alone once we agreed to collaborate."

Well, the force de frappe isn't going to do much good against the Islamist devils, anyway. Chirac will just have to get into the dirt.

The terrorist had better be careful the mighty French Battalion of (1) is on the way over there now. Once, briefed by the Americans, settled into his/her quarters, there will be h*ll to pay.

Its citizens are not in a war it opposes. France just can't prevent its citizens from inserting themselves into a war zone, and if they go can't protect them. Being a eunich is such and existential heartbreak.
