SHOULD WE ASSUME A SHORT MEMORY OR NO CONSCIENCE?:

Byrd Responds To Criticism of 'Nazi' Comments (Metro News, 3/10/05)

Byrd responded to the criticism of those comments during an appearance Thursday on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes.

"I invoked history. I was quoting an historian. What is this all about? I pay no attention to the flies, the gnats, the little bug bites. I keep my eyes on the ball. This is about freedom of speech."

Colmes than asked Byrd if there's less tolerance for dissent in Congress now, than in years past.

"I’ve never seen anything like it." Byrd said.

The country, he added, is polarized more by politics today, than any other time as long as he can remember.

Think any black contemporary would agree with that assessment?
