GOP Jewish Group Critizes Byrd's Remarks (ALAN FRAM, Associated Press)

A pair of Jewish groups accused Sen. Robert Byrd on Wednesday of making an outrageous and reprehensible comparison between Adolf Hitler's Nazis and a Senate GOP plan to block Democrats from filibustering. [...]

Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, said Wednesday that Byrd's remarks showed "a profound lack of understanding as to who Hitler was" and that the senator should apologize to the American people.

"It is hideous, outrageous and offensive for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics could in any way resemble those of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party," Foxman said.

With the notable exception of the Clintons, the public face of the Democratic Party is alternately bland or ugly.

Abe Foxman part of a GOP group. That's a laugh.

The way the Democrats are going, they'll have Foxman registering as a Republican before the end of the decade.

One wonders what the young staffers for Byrd, Kennedy, Reid, Pelosi, etc. talk about in the watering holes of DC in the late evening hours.

"But it wasn't like this on The West Wing!"

"I wish I could have met the Senator when he was in his prime."

"Do we have to clear our response with Julian Bond?"

"Did someone lock the Senator's closet before we left the office?"

While Byrd is a senile, racist, Jew-hating old git, the lack of response from the Democrats on this, including the National Jewish Democratic Council, has been deafening. For a Democrat to upset Abe Foxman, he must really have crossed a line. All a Republican needs to do to anger Foxman so deeply is order a pastrami sandwich and a glass of milk.

OJ first got me hooked on this blog with tag lines like "Screaming Kleagles". I'm visualizing the shoulder patch as I type. Omigod.

And in people like Leahy, Dodd, Boxer and Byrd, you've got a bland ugliness.

Too bad Jim Traficant left Congress.

Barney Frank could pick up the mantle, but he's almost a conservative hero now (after whip-sawing Eason Jordan).
