A Wink and a Fraud (MAUREEN DOWD, 3/17/05, NY Times)

At the Gridiron Dinner in Washington on Saturday, where Old Media gently mocked politicians with corny songs, I sat next to a presidential gag writer, Landon Parvin. He was saying jokes work best when Republicans make fun of Republicans and Democrats make fun of Democrats.

President Bush, looking spiffy in white tie and tails, swung by to talk to Mr. Parvin. He didn't look my way, but proceeded back up to the dais.

Suddenly, W. turned around, stopped and looked right at me. Then he flashed a wink, not a flirty wink but a mischievous Clark Gable "I've got your number and you think you've got mine but I win" wink.

Bush had a cold, but he was feeling pretty hot.

One of the stranger uses Ms Dowd has made of her generally useless column is to share with us her rather unhealthy obsession with the President. She's made it clear that she can feel her biological clock ticking down, but bragging about getting a wink from the smokin' hot object of her affection is really a bit much.

She's stalking the President? I highly doubt it, but if the meme catches on, it gives the Secret Service a good excuse to take her out.

"Hey! Excuse me, Agent, sir, but see that frumpy redhead over there with the New York Times press pass? . . . "

Well, Eleanor Clift was clearly in love with either Bill or Hilary Clinton (or both) so I guess this is a traditional among stupid lefty female columnists.

Fourth grade, yes that's the ticket. MoDo is a fourth grader.

If you think she's "bragging" about the wink, you might want to look into some remdial reading classes, Orrin.

Her obsession OJ is with herself. She probably keeps his carrier landing picture under her bed.

To be fair I didn't read the article beyond your post. Don't intend to either.

Why did she break up with Michael Douglas anyway? Did he promise to cast her in a new movie he was making and it turned out to be 'The Mikado' with her as Katisha?
