Gerry Adams, the president of Sinn Fein, arrived in New York on Monday on his annual St. Patrick's Day trip to the United States and played down a White House snub only to face a new and potentially more damaging one - from Senator Edward Kennedy, the Irish party's most prominent supporter in American politics.
