McGuinness warns McCartney sisters (David Teather in New York and Angelique Chrisafis, March 15, 2005, The Guardian)

Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness last night warned the family of IRA murder victim Robert McCartney not to be used as political pawns as they prepared to meet George Bush at the White House.

The party's chief negotiator said the campaign to bring the killers to justice could be left open to political manipulation.

Seeming rattled by the crisis engulfing Sinn Féin, he told BBC Radio Ulster: "The McCartneys need to be very careful. To step over that line, which is a very important line, into the world of party political politics, can do a huge disservice to their campaign.

"In fact, it can dismay and disillusion an awful lot of people, tens of thousands of people who support them in their just demands."


All the folk who've been perfectly happy to hop in bed with the IRA over the years must feel like the proverbial drunk who woke up in the morning with a painted whore.

Is McGuiness threatening the McCartney sisters--"shut up or we whack you like your brother?" The IRA is just stupid enough to do that.

Be nice if someone kneecapped Gerry Adams, just to give 'em a taste of their own medicine.

There is a prison camp in Cuba that is perfect for Adams and McGuiness. If these sisters are shot, George Bush will probably put them on the plane there persoanlly.

Sinn Fein is just flushing themselves down the toilet on this. There are times only a mea culpa will do.

But this seems less like a warning than a plea to not totally destroy the public reputation of Sinn Fein/IRA which has less to do with the McCartney's than with the IRA's action on this anyway.

its so odd to watch people twist themselves into knots trying to find a way to defend evil. durnell, why don't you just admit that the ira and sinn fein are scum, and save yourself the trouble. why is it so hard for you to do that ?
