BENCH ME, COACH:

New U.S. Attorney General to Focus on Obscenity (Stuart Shepard, 3/02/05, CitizenLink)

Pro-family groups have been clamoring for increased enforcement of the nation's obscenity laws—now it looks like hope is on the horizon. In his first major speech as the new attorney general, Alberto Gonzales listed the prosecution of obscenity as one of his top priorities.

Just two weeks after swearing to defend the Constitution, new Attorney General Alberto Gonzales made clear that obscene materials are not protected by the First Amendment and that he is committed to "aggressive prosecution."

"This is a very good sign," said Daniel Weiss, media and sexuality analyst at Focus on the Family, "for the Attorney General to publicly state that obscenity prosecution is a main priority for his department. This is really great news."

I guess the GOP really doesn't want to make any inroads among 18-30 year old men.

Tell these idiots from Focus on the Family and all the other would-be Bowdlers, to go buy a g-damn radio or TV with a channel changer and an Off switch and leave the rest of us alone to run our own lives as we see fit.

Decent societies can't be built around their least responsible members.

Decent societies also do not micro-manage the lives of their members.

No, they manage the public institutions.

And broadcasting in the print or radio or TV or Internet or Satellite is private not public.
