BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS TO STOP AMERICA FROM BULLYING JEW HATERS:
Iceland welcomes citizen Fischer (Richard Lloyd Parry, 3/23/05, Times of London)
BOBBY FISCHER, the former world chess champion incarcerated for the past nine months, may be freed this week after a diplomatic confrontation between Japan and Iceland.Posted by Orrin Judd at March 22, 2005 7:22 PMPresident Grimsson of Iceland is expected to sign into law today a Bill granting citizenship to Mr Fischer. It represents the culmination of an extraordinary campaign by Reykjavik to save Mr Fischer from deportation to the United States where he faces criminal prosecution.
John Bosnitch, head of the Tokyo-based Committee to Free Bobby Fischer, said: “The Icelandic parliament, the Althingi, has . . . made history by standing up to the Earth’s sole superpower and demonstrating that it can no longer bully individuals or nations.” [...]
Mr Bosnitch said: “Bobby Fischer is standing up as a hero of every oppressed individual in the world.”
Mr Fischer is an unlikely prisoner of conscience, an extreme anti-Semite who has spoken openly of the attacks on the US on 11 September 2001 as “wonderful news”, and of his hope for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Jews.
Iceland is little more than a big, cold, wet St. Helena, known mostly for geysers, salted fish and preteen alcoholism. Let him stay there in well-deserved obscurity.

I'm not quite sure the Icelandians have properly named their "Parliament". Sounds likes it's a six year old's description of some impossible "Star Trek" technology, "All-thingy".
Of course, not even a six year old in a moral society would in any way praise a Bobby Fischer

"The Icelandic parliament, the Althingi"

930-1262
The Viking-Age settlers of Iceland established a remarkable society with an annual national assembly, the Alingi, as its most important institution.
1262-1845
With the submission to Norwegian authority agreed to under the "Old Covenant" (Gamli sttmli) in 1262, the function of the Althingi changed and in 1800 its functions were taken over by a High Court.
1845-1874
In 1845 it was re-established and functioned as a consultative assembly to the Danish monarchy until 1874.
1874-
With the granting of the Constitution of 1874, Althingi regained legislative power. The following century has witnessed a variety of changes to both the electoral laws and parliamentary activities.
First Lazy Town, now this. Is there no limit to their depravity?

Posted by: cjm at March 23, 2005 11:10 AMWith all the stale news on the web, it's refreshing to hear of a diplomatic row between Japan and Iceland.
How's that for a pairing?
