AT LEAST THEY KNOW WHAT THE DISPUTE IS OVER:

North Korea Denounces US Pro-Democracy Act (Park Song-wu, 3/07/05, Korea Times)

North Korea on Monday criticized the United States' ADVANCE Democracy Act of 2005 for its ``illegal'' and ``immoral'' attempt to interfere in the North's domestic affairs.

``Under the veil of freedom and democracy, the U.S. is conspiring to carry out an immoral plan to intervene in other countries' domestic affairs,'' the North's Korean Central Broadcasting Station said.

It is the first reaction from Pyongyang to the pro-democracy bill, which lawmakers in both houses of the U.S. Congress introduced on Thursday.

ADVANCE is an acronym for the bill's full title: Advance Democratic Values, Address Non-democratic Countries and Enhance Democracy Act of 2005.

``North Korea might have interpreted it as the U.S.' continuing hostility toward the Pyongyang regime,'' Professor Ryoo Kihl-jae of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul told The Korea Times.

Quick on the uptake, eh?
