STATEHOOD SUFFICES:

Palestinians Angry Over Tel Aviv Attack (MOHAMMED BALLAS, 2/27/05, Associated Press)

Palestinians expressed anger Saturday at an overnight suicide bombing in Tel Aviv that killed four Israelis and threatened a fragile truce, a departure from former times when they welcomed attacks on their Israeli foes.

Official condemnations and denials were followed by public anger toward the perpetrators as Israeli blamed Syria and the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, which claimed responsibility for the attack.

For several years now folks have said that if you just give the Palestinians a state they'll quickly shift their focus from Israel to their own internal problems and "hawks" have scoffed.

It is difficult for me to believe that Abbas' election changed the 'Arab Street' so completely so quickly. It is probably far more likely that what we are seeing is a new 'flavor of the month' from the MSM. The 'Arab Street' never much cared for the murder of Israeli civilians because they knew that they would bear the brunt of the inevitable retaliation and that the clampdowns which Israel was compelled to do for the security of its citizens was devastating to the 'Palestinian' society and economy. Now, the MSM is changing from its long-standing implicit support for the murder of Jewish civilians because the so-called 'Palestinians' actually have a state of their own. So, it has to report on 'changes' in what's happening on the ground so their change of opinion doesn't seem quite so Pauline.
