SHOULD HAVE BURNED GALILEO:

String Theorist Explores Dark Energy And Our Unique 'Pocket' Of The Universe: A little ball of paradise in a universe of chaos. (Dawn Levy, Feb 18, 2005, SPX)

Some celestial bodies are so cold that methane freezes; others are so hot that nuclear reactions occur. And then there's Earth, with a benign temperature hovering in the narrow range between freezing and boiling, allowing the existence of liquid water-and life. "There's no question that there are many things about the [universe] which if they were very much different, even just a little bit different, life couldn't exist, intelligent life couldn't exist," said Stanford physics Professor Leonard Susskind, who is currently on sabbatical and writing a popular book titled The Cosmic Landscape. "The [universe] is truly an incredibly fine-tuned place."

And at its center is the Earth.

A possibly-relevant quote:

"There seems no center because it's all center." -- C. S. Lewis

So, to resurrect the whole "witch burning" aspect of the comments to this article (or, more specifically, your headline) for someone who hates the so-called "Culture of Death" so much you do seem to want to kill a large number of people. The traditional definition of "heretic" included Jews during the Middle Ages you pine so fiercely for. What's the deal, OJ? Who *don't* you want to kill?

Moral conformists.

Moral conformists.

Which means of course that you want to kill everyone. Including yourself. You see anyone who wants to kill so many people by definition cannot be moral. Your claim is self refuting.

My thanks to the Govenor for noting OJ's 1984-ish expunging of this previously submitted thread.

Oh I don't doubt that Orrin made an honest mistake in deleting the thread. He's astoundingly inept when it comes to computers. Watching him type is one of the funniest, most frustrating things I've ever seen in my life. It's like watching a chimp puzzle out a Rubik's cube. He's also not the kind of guy to shy away from an argument using technical chicanery.
But come on, Orrin: "moral conformists?" Anyone who fetishizes getting roundly spanked by Margaret Thatcher should probably be real careful about slinging accusations of amorality around.

Gov:

The point being that all straight men share that fantasy, such that no one even considers it immoral.

daniel:

To the contrary, most folks are moral conformists, though none of us meet our standards all the time. It's only those who deny morality who are antithetical to a decent society, for instance believers in witchcraft, paedophilia, homosexuality and Julia Roberts.

...and those who believe in killing large numbers of people.

Posted by: daniel duffy at February 22, 2005 4:23 PM

No, Americans are the last people to claim that killing large numbers of people is immoral--we do it regularly and for just cause.

no one kills like americans. one marine in WWII killed over 500 japs in one night. we bagged over 1,000,000 chinese in the korean war.

OJ,

What is just about killing gays, besides fueling your revenge fantasies over that little incident in your frat house?

As for witches, the KJV is a mistranslation. The actual quote is "Thou shalt not suffer a *poisoner* to live." And even if you claim Bibilical sanctions for your proposed murders, why are you being half-assed about it? Why not go all the way and kill those who pick up sticks on Saturday as well (OMIGOD! OJ hates golfers and softball players too!)

Posted by: daniel duffy at February 23, 2005 8:41 AM

"Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live" bans a type of poisoning that most people would not classify as murder because otherwise the law would be unneeded. Selling abortifacients fits.

Posted by: Joseph Hertzlinger at February 23, 2005 11:58 AM

So Joe, why aren't you out shooting abortionists?

Posted by: daniel duffy at February 23, 2005 12:53 PM

daniel:

It's illegal and we've decided as a society not to kill people just because they're immoralists.
