GOOD MORNING, IRAQ:
Rumsfeld pays visit to Iraq (The Associated Press, Feb. 10, 2005)
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld arrived in Iraq on Friday morning for a daylong visit to review Iraq security forces and meet with Iraqi and American leaders.Posted by Orrin Judd at February 11, 2005 12:00 AMThe visit was not announced publicly in advance for security reasons.
His first stop was to be at a combat surgical hospital to meet wounded soldiers.
Rumsfeld is the most senior U.S. official to arrive in Iraq since the nation’s elections on Jan. 30. Rumsfeld’s spokesman Larry di Rita said the purpose of the trip was “to recognize the great success of the elections.”
Hail the liberator!
Posted by: jd watson at February 11, 2005 4:28 AMIt is particularly nice that, as the Times was publishing Tom Friedman's column dissing Rumsfeld, Rumsfeld was on his way to Iraq.
Posted by: David Cohen at February 11, 2005 7:36 AMOn the Sunday when Iraq had an election that was changing everything, the Times magazine published an article by Richard Clarke that claimed that it would change nothing or make them worse.
How come I never meet people this dumb in Vegas?

Yes, I get the joke, but just to nit-pick, Vegas is brimming with people that dumb. Present company excluded of course.
Rumsfeld is probably dutifully obeying his boss's order to show a more caring side to his personality due to his run of bad publicity regarding signatures on condolence letters etc..
