DOES ANYONE EDIT THE TIMES?:

Wherefore Art Thou, Clint? (MAUREEN DOWD, 2/06/05, NY Times)

A friend of mine e-mailed me Friday to see if I wanted to go to the Folger Theater production of "Romeo and Juliet."

I e-mailed him back, fretting: Doesn't that play promote suicide?

You'd not expect Ms Dowd to grasp the point, but if anyone edited the Times anymore they might have told her that Shakespeare thought it a tragedy not a triumph.

She particularly likes Julius Caesar because of its pro-euthanasia statement.

Come now, is there a (real) man anywhere who would make Dowdy feel like Juliet?

Romeo would certainly have had Dowds about her ... and her stance on youth in Asia would not have helped any.

No, Jim, but she'd be a challenging shrew to tame.
