AD HOMINEM ATTACKS ALWAYS WORK BEST

Global warming bad science, Kyoto critics say (Canadian Press, February 11th, 2005)

Scientists who oppose the prevailing views on climate change have been shut out of debate on the Kyoto protocol, the Commons environment committee was told Thursday.

The result is that Canada may be wasting billions of dollars trying to curb emissions of carbon dioxide which is not a pollutant, said Charles Simpson, president of a Calgary-based group called Friends of Science.

“The Canadian government has refused to listen to our government's leading experts in the field,” said Mr. Simpson, a retired oil industry employee.

He was accompanied Carleton University geologist Tim Patterson, one of a handful of scientists across Canada who have become known as outspoken critics of the Kyoto protocol.

“It is the first time to my knowledge that an independent climate scientist has addressed a committee such as this,” Mr. Simpson said before introducing Dr. Patterson, whose specialty is paleoclimatology — the study of past climate.[...]

Environment Canada scientist Henry Hengeveld said Patterson is commenting on matters outside his field.

“That's like a dermatologist commenting on the diagnosis of a neurologist. I think this is an example of someone outside his field of expertise, not having read all the literature out there ... and really being out of his depth.”

The charm of this debate is that everybody seems to think it is about science.

'Global Warming' is really bad science but really good Marxist eschatology.

The only claimants about the evils of global warming are from the comfortable West, where we have more than enough for our needs. These folks, who wouldn't turn the air conditioner to 78 degrees Farenheit(that's 25 degrees for furriners) rather than 68 (20), insist that the rest of us close down the industries that created the wealth of our societies in the first place.

There is no real evidence of global warming and no proof that if it did exist that it would be harmful in some significant way. One of these idiots complained that global warming would increase the growing season in Manitoba and cause more rainfall in Kansas. Like these are bad things?

It is simply Western guilt with a pseudo-scientific gloss. The notion is that if something makes our lives in the West more difficult, more expensive or even more unpleasant than it already is, it is good for humanity. Think of it as 'mortification of the flesh' for seculars.

There is no 'proof' for man made catatstrophic climate change but if it exists it must be caused by relatively free people operating within a free economy. That is what they wish to end. The unsupervised masses must be controlled and they wish to be the controllers. They are scientists and they know better. Disagreement must not be allowed since those who disagree have questionable motives.

I just hope I live long enough to see the day that "global arming" is the punchline of jokes

The true believers in global warming are not scientists. Scientists develop hypotheses and then test them. If the test shows that the hypothesis is incorrect, then a scientist drops the hypothesis.

The global warming bunch have no evidence for their views, only faith, thus they may be many things, intellectuals, philosophers, theoreticians, theologians, monastics, extremists, loonballs, weirdos but certainly not scientists.

"warming" of course

Bart-

There are a lot of folks out there calling themselves scientists and reccomending policy based on their credentials as scientists. Calling them out on their ideologically driveb agenda is fun. Science and ideology don't mix.

If we applied the Dems critiia for preventative measures to clean up the Social Security System to the "global warmng" fantasy, we'd ignore it for at least the next couple of decades.

"Wishing doesn't make it so." All my life I have fought against people who refuse to accept the results of science, just because it does not meet with their preconceptions. The earth is getting warmer. This is a fact. The consensus among scientists who have studied the climate is that human produced carbon dioxide is major contributor to this warming. They may be wrong. But name-calling does not advance the cause of reason a single step. Have any of you read a single scientific work on climate change? Do you have a clue what you are talking about before you drag in Marx? You are no better than witch-doctors. You make me ashamed.
