THE WORLD OPENS ITS HEART
Poll (National Post, January 8th, 2004)
Do you support spending taxpayer money to help tsunami victims at the expense of programs here in Canada?
Yes 19.55 %
No 80.45 %
Hmmm...this is liberal thought?
Posted by: Bartman at January 8, 2005 9:23 AMOne of the great advantages of being rich is that Americans don't have to make this trade-off. Down below, OJ posted an article by Monbiot complaining that we don't have the money to properly succor the tsunami victims because we're spending it on Iraq.
So far, we've pledged $350 million. That's generous and, so far as I can see, is adequate to the challenges now being faced, but in a $2 trillion budget, it's a rounding error.
Posted by: David Cohen at January 8, 2005 9:52 AMWas there a question on the poll asking Canadians if they favored spending American taxpayers' money on tsunami releif efforts? If it's not, and given the supposed worldwide outrage on George W. Bush's "puny" initial response to the flood, I have a good idea what the response to that question would have been.
