RAZE BIG BEN:

BBC producer resigns over Springer 'blasphemy' (Chris Tryhorn, January 12, 2005, MediaGuardian.co.uk)

A senior BBC radio producer has quit in protest after the corporation broadcast the controversial musical Jerry Springer - the Opera, saying it was blasphemous and offensive to his Christian faith.

Antony Pitts, a senior producer at BBC Radio 3, handed in his resignation after watching the BBC2 broadcast of Jerry Springer - the Opera, despite two personal interventions by director general Mark Thompson trying to persuade him to stay.

Mr Pitts revealed he had threatened to leave on Friday, before the programme had gone out, but was persuaded to reserve judgment and watch it for himself in a 40-minute phone call with Mr Thompson.

But despite Mr Thompson's pleas, repeated at a meeting this week, Mr Pitts decided after watching the award-winning musical that it was even more offensive than he had feared.

You do have to wonder if today's BBC would have supported Churchill--they seem to hate everything decent about Britain.

Well, the BBC did refuse to allow Churchill to broadcast his pre-war speeches over the air, because taking on Hitler was too "controversial."

Fun fact: George Orwell got the idea for his "Ministry of Peace and Truth" in Nineteen Eighty-Four from his years working with the BBC.

It's true. The BBC did hate Churchill. He was considered insufficiently nuanced in his foreign policy and accused of being a 'warmonger'. Does this sound familiar?

This all goes back much further than you think. Givernment funded media is co-opted by leftist intellectuals very quickly wherever it appears. NPR is just another example, and bad as it is nowhere near as ghastly or as entrenched as the BBC.

If you were to read the recent Hansard of the British House of Commons, you would find that the Conservative MPs are every bit as anti-American and supportive of Islamic terror as the worst of the Labour left.

Isn't there some law in England where it is a crime to insult someone's religion?

Only if that religion preaches that it is OK to murder non-believers. All other religions can be insulted with impunity in Old Blighty.
