DOES ANYBODY EDIT THE MONITOR?:
How tsunami may buoy other giving (Peter Grier, Peter Ford, and Patrik Jonsson, 1/07/05, CS Monitor)
That seems an unfortunate turn of phrase.
This is the third such "error" I have seen.
Jonathan Klein, the new CNN news chief (of the pajama remark), said that he was "flooding the zone", and the prayer in the House yesterday was about the wind and the rising waters destroying the house built on sand (from Matthew 7).
Meanwhile, all the office calendars where I work show placid views of Waikiki Beach (for January), but they just remind me of the beaches before the tsunami.

Given how closely Amex is connected to the travel service industry, I thought shots of him riding a giant wave coming on shore in the midst of all the initial tsunami coverage would set off alarm bells in the corporate offices and the ads would be put on the shelf for a couple of weeks.
Posted by: John at January 6, 2005 8:09 PMGentlemen, We all knew before the recent natural disaster that tectonic plates more, volcanoes erupt, and tidal waves strike coastlines. I suggest that a serious person has an awareness of reality concerning castastrophe when comtemplating a peaceful beach or an exhilarating surf, just as he knows that the day he begins may be his last. This awareness should augment, rather than diminish, our appreciation of the good things we see.
