THE G.O.P.'S SECOND FAVORITE MAYOR:
Feds give city $48 million in anti-terrorism funds (FRAN SPIELMAN, December 4, 2004, Chicago Sun-Times)
Outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge came to Chicago on Friday bearing gifts: $48 million in anti-terrorism grants and personal thanks from President Bush for the "extraordinary decision" made by Mayor Daley's son Patrick to serve his country at a time of war."When he learned that I was coming to Chicago, he said ... 'Tell him I've been reading about his son. ... Such an impressive, unbelievable decision,' " Ridge said, with Daley at his side.
"He said, 'I suspect the mayor is pretty proud of his son, and he should be,'" Ridge said. "He asked to be remembered to you personally [and] to tell you how impressed and grateful he was for you and your son."
Daley has another reason to be grateful: $48 million in so-called Urban Area Security Initiative grants for fiscal 2005 to bolster training, equipment and technology.
Offer him H.H.S. with Mark McClellan as his deputy. Posted by Orrin Judd at December 4, 2004 10:19 AM
He is innovative. Got a towing program that can get you a 3 year old Land Rover for $150, if you know the right people.

Now if W can get the sugar subsidies down, Chicago might once again become the candy capital of the country.
And bring good-paying jobs back, to boot.
