Corzine tells New Jersey county Democratic chairmen he's in governor's race (DONNA DE LA CRUZ, 12/01/04, Associated Press)

Sen. Jon Corzine called New Jersey's 21 Democratic county chairmen on Wednesday, telling them that he will run for governor, several party sources said.

Corzine, a former investment banker, was expected to make an official announcement Thursday in New Jersey, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity

According to a Quinnipiac University poll released last month, Corzine would easily defeat any candidate in either party if the election were held today. A source close to Corzine said he intends to remain in the Senate while waging a gubernatorial campaign.

Tom Kean sure seems to enjoy the limelight--get him to run for the Senate seat.

Tom Kean doesn't want to be Senator. His son probably would want it more. Kean just came off a decade or so as President of Drew University - my alma mater. They've been after his for YEARS to run for something. ANYTHING. And he always said no. Always preferred the simpler life of college president, some publicity stuff, and the occasional public outings.

After the 9/11 panel, he announced his resignation as President at the end of this school year. After that, I doubt he'll be wanting to run for anything. He'll probably enjoy a slightly quieter life.

The Republicans have to deal with repeat loser Doug Forrester wanting to run for everything in the state first.

Mr. De Blieck:

Yes, all that was true in the past but have you seen him lately? Washington seems to have gone to his head a bit, no?

Tom Kean is viscerally hated by conservative Republicans in NJ. He was a bigger RINO than Arlen Specter and re-appointed Robert Wilentz to be Chief Justice of the NJ Supreme Court. He always kowtowed to the extreme left when it came to crime or spending. He's part of the problem not part of the solution.

The pubbies should get a "housewife" to articulate Corzine's wanting to control/ban chloride.

That should sink him for sure. No Clorox bleach, house cleaners.

A multimillionaire telling the little women to find a different way for the good of the earth.

Tell me about it--I worked for Peter Shapiro against Kean in '85. He'd win though.

Darned if I can figure him out. There's something about him.
