MAKE MINE A TREE:

GOP gift idea takes root (NY Daily News, 12/07/04)

What do you get for the Republican who has everything?

The George Bush bush, perhaps?

The new shrub is a gimmick conceived by retired Secret Service Agent Philip Leadroot. He's peddling a $5 seed packet that features a picture of the President on it.

"It just hit me one morning," said Leadroot. "President Bush is growing liberty. Planting a bush in his honor would both show pride in America and create a lasting memory of the President and his family, who have served us so well."

My Kerry-supporting neighbor to the east spent last weekend ripping out the various species of hedge bushes (just barely on his side of the property line) last weekend. Guess it was part of his PEST therapy. But, what once provided a fair amount of visual privacy between the two houses is now a gaping, 50-foot long, desolate hole.

Now I know what to get him for Christmas. Thanks OJ.
