ADVENTURES OF AN F.O.B. (via Robert Schwartz):

Billionaire Marc Rich has emerged as a central figure in the U.N. oil-for-food scandal and is under investigation for brokering deals in which scores of international politicians and businessmen cashed in on sweetheart oil deals with Saddam Hussein, The Post has learned.

Rich, the fugitive Swiss-based commodities trader who received a controversial pardon from President Bill Clinton in January 2001, is a primary target of criminal probes under way in the U.S. attorney's office in New York and by Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, sources said.

"We think he was a major player in this — a central figure," a senior law-enforcement official told The Post.

Investigators are looking into a series of deals that took place in the months after his pardon from Clinton. If criminal wrongdoing is established in these deals, he could be subject to prosecution.

The more interesting question is what deals he cut to secure the pardon from the Clinton White House?

If you read between the lines on a few of the stories published recently, as well as back in 2001 when the pardon first occurred, the other question may be what deals Denise Rich cut with Bill Clinton to secure the pardon (though I'll assume Denise's digs in New York are nicer than Bernie Kerik's, even with a $6,000 a month rental fee...)

Not to be crude but one look at the pictures of Denise Rich at the time of the Clinton pardon gave you a good idea of what Clinton may have gotten in return.

The one aspect of Hillary that people keep forgetting when talking about her reaching the presidency in 2008 is her connection to Bill. As items like these come up and Bill's star is tarnished Hillary will be tarnished as well. Unless she dumps him overboard which will alienate a good part of the Dem party which still revers him.

AWW: Bill got Denise for old times sake. The pardon had to have been paid for in cash and the number would be at least 9 digits long. The question is what is the connection between the pardon and the Saddam deals? Just a chance to pick up the cash?

Bill can get all the trim he needs for free. They throw themselves at him. Pardons are business deals.
