Sex pioneer Kinsey's biopic stirs up the right (Gary Younge, The Guardian, November 15th, 2004)
In the late forties and early fifties, during the height of McCarthyism, Alfred Kinsey's investigations into America's sexual behaviour was so unsettling to the authorities that they branded him a communist, cut his funding and impounded his study aids.Half a century later, as a film into Mr Kinsey's life hit the screens on Friday, some in the field of sexual research in the US believe they are once again under threat.
"I have been in this field for 30 years, and the level of fear and intimidation is higher now than I can ever remember," Dr Gilbert Herdt, a researcher at San Francisco State University told the New York Times.
"With the recent election there's concern that there will be even more intrusion of ideology into science."
If we're not going to do fetal stem-cell research on the public's dime, then how about a Federally funded Supercollider, at least ?
That's got to be worth 10% of an Iraqi invasion...

Where did the data for Table 34 (child sexuality data) in his "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male come from? That's right--it came from pedophiles, and sexually abused children. Kinsey should have been in jail himself for trafficing in such things.

A sex survey based on the testimony of perverts, violent sex offenders and other vermin has little to none of the normal indicia of reliability.
I'm reminded of HL Mencken's comment about the Kinsey report,'All it shows is that the American male will happily exaggerate his sexual prowess and that pedants are singularly credulous creatures.'
The Kinsey Report was the staggeringly thin reed upon which American reprobates decided to rely to justify their immoral behavior.

Posted by: Sandy P at November 15, 2004 12:21 PMThe logic of contemporary "scientists" like Dr. Herd is hard to describe. He seems a liitle less than perfectly reasonable, doesn't he? I guess if you're a scientist and you believe in something hard enough it always comes true! Pathetic.
