WAS THAT A PIECE OF TOM TANCREDO'S HEAD THAT JUST FLEW BY?:

Kellogg CEO Chosen for Commerce Post (DEB RIECHMANN, 11/29/04, Associated Press)

President Bush on Monday chose Carlos Gutierrez, chief executive officer of the Kellogg Co., to be secretary of Commerce, administration officials said. [...]

"Carlos's family came to America from Cuba when he was a boy," Bush said in the Roosevelt Room. "He learned English from a bellhop in a Miami hotel and later became an American citizen. When his family eventually settled in Mexico City, Carlos took his first job for Kellogg as a truck driver, delivering Frosted Flakes to local stores."

Commerce should be eliminated or significantly downsized. That said it appears this appointment, along with Gonzalez as AG and potential hispanic jurors, shows Bush is really working on the hispanic vote.

Thanks to Castro, 90% of the remaining population of Cuba are great Americans-in-waiting. GWB ought to dump the insane wet/dry policy immediately.

Curt - or W could just take over Cuba, throw Castro and his ilk out, and add it to Florida as an offshore island.

AWW -- Funny thing about human nature. They would be less great Americans if it were handed to them in the fashion you suggest -- heck, they'd probably be resentful for generations.

Venezuela, though, is an entirely different story -- and it has OIL as a fringe benefit.

I'm also trying to imagine what the Coalition of the Willing would look like for that enterprise....

Puerto Rico, the 51st state and Cuba the 52nd!

Actually would be a lot better deal than Cuba had under Batista OR Castro.

Under Batista, an independent Cuba acted as a "here there is no law" attraction for corruption and vice, just off the coast. If we go back to that, we're guaranteeing another Batista -- followed by another Castro.
