Chirac to snub Iraqi leader (Andrew Beatty, 11/05/04, EU Observer)

French President Jacques Chirac will not join other EU leaders in a meeting with Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi on Friday.

According to media reports, Mr Chirac will leave the EU summit before a lunch which Mr Allawi will attend.


This is the horse's patoot who Mr. Kerry thought was our ally? As someone mentioned the other day, Mr. Bush should mend fences with Mr. Kerry by inviting him to put together that summit on Iraq he talked about in the campaign and then serve as America's official representative. The "allies" would either stiff the Senator too, thereby shutting him up, or decide to chip in just to spite Mr. Bush--either way the President wins.

I think it might be a good idea for GWB to appoint JFK2 ambassador to France.

From the Bush point of view this would seem to be completely harmless while keeping John and his boss occupied.

With Kerry staying in the Senate, it would be hard for him to say 'non'. Or perhaps Bush could just offer the job to Teresa? Or even Andre?

Speaking of terrific ideas, here's one I pinched from George Templeton Strong, a conservative lawyer in New York in the mid-19th century. In his diary, he proposed that instead of convicting John Brown and hanging him after Harper's Ferry, Virginia would have been wiser to have charged him with some minor offense, like inciting to riot, and convicting him of that.

I like that for Saddam. How about charging him with polluting the Tigris or something?
