The Red Zone (Maureen Dowd, New York Times, 11/04/04)

Seeing the exit polls, the Democrats immediately started talking about values and religion. Their sudden passion for wooing Southern white Christian soldiers may put a crimp in Hillary's 2008 campaign (nothing but a wooden stake would stop it). Meanwhile, the blue puddle is comforting itself with the expectation that this loony bunch will fatally overreach, just as Newt Gingrich did in the 90's.

But with this crowd, it's hard to imagine what would constitute overreaching.

Invading France?

If only Bush could entice her with a gaggle of celebrities hot off Christmas box-office mega-hits to hang out with at the January inauguration events, Maureen would be putty in his hands.

But even without that, her take on Hillary! 2008 was spot-on, though it will be interesting to see how long she can maintain that stance in the run-up to the next election.

Taking over France would require little more military than the Girl Scouts of Brooklyn armed with stale cookies and Jerry Lewis DVDs.

Maureen Dowd is just a remarkably stupid person. It is amazing to me that even the Times would hire her.

Why not Dowd? This is the same newspaper that gives a twice-weekly column to decompensated mental patients Paul Krugman and Frank Rich.

I thought Frank Rich has a column that appears slightly less than weekly(one might say weakly) in the Arts Section on Sunday.

Krugman actually managed to get a PhD in Economics. One can only wonder if it was through boxtops or bribery. It clearly wasn't his tremendous powers of clear-headed analysis.
