Schilling Makes Surprise Stop for Bush (AP, 01 November 2004)

Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling made a surprise appearance Monday morning with President Bush, limping to the stage to give Bush a strong endorsement.

In my head, I'm hearing a baseball broadcast from an alternate universe . . .

"Count is 0 and 2 on Kerry; Schilling winds up, delivers . . . called strike three! Kerry strikes out again."

"That was just perfect pitch selection by Schilling there, Herb. Kerry is a very nuanced batter, he likes complexity, and Schilling threw an eephus pitch down the middle, which is just too simple and direct for Kerry to handle."

Lynn Swann, Joe Paterno, Bo Schembechler, John Elway, Mike Tice, Brett Favre, Johnny Bench, Anthony Munoz; and now Curt Schilling. I think we have the jock vote pretty well sewn up.

I believe Steve Mariucci introduced GW at one of his Michigan appearances.

Johnny Bench last night in Cincinatti, where the President drew 45,000 to Great American Ballpark. Doesn't get any better than that.
