I'm not a big fan of global warming hype, but I think this is a poor analogy.

Terrorism is conducted by people actively seeking to cause harm. They are out to destroy things.

Global warming, if it exists, is the inadvertent result of people striving to do well (industry, capitalism, etc.). They are not out to destroy things.

Those poll results actually reflect a generally conservative outlook among the population: Terrorism will not stop because humans are imperfectible.

We don't need to make people perfect to end terrorism. Just a little less evil, or a little more dead.

Whereas global warming, a natural phenomenon, is beyond our ability to touch.

I'm typing from western WI. Where I live was at the edge of a glacier 10,000-20,000 years ago. I'll grant the fact that there has been a global warming. All of this happened before the evil SUV's appeared.

Semolina:

in addition to what pj said, I think you are missing the difference as it relates to the progressive political agenda. Terrorism is an effort to attack or do harm to the U.S./West. Nothing can(should?)be done about it. Global warming, like world poverty, is an infliction of harm by the U.S/West. Roll up your sleeves!

Leaving aside the global warming debate, the "poll" results are accurate, but still misleading.

The question should be "can we win the war on Islamo-fasism?" The 75/25 answers would be reversed.

"Terror" is a tactic. The "war" is against your enemy. We defeat every enemy we encounter as long as we maintain the resolve to win.

It is a pity the Bush administration doesn't articulate the above distiction.

As for global warming...

Chicago weather has been much more moderate (cooler summers - warmer winters) in the last 6 years.

Global Warming - Get behind it!

Get the terrorists to build coal-fired power plants and drill oil and gas wells in wetlands, and the 75 percent will demand they be fought to the death. Tell them the terrorists own stock in Halliburton and they'll want to dig them up and kill them two or three more times after that.

Once again Canada comes through demonstrating that it is on the fast track to the scrap heap. Just because the average Canadian lacks the toughness of your average day-old strand of over-cooked diner spaghetti, it doesn't mean everyone else does.

Shared sacrifice for a common goal, that just wouldn't be Canadian now would it?
