WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT LIVE JEWS?:
EU diplomat admits success of Israel wall (Honor Mahony, 10/08/04, EU Observer)
The EU's representative in the Middle East has conceded that the controversial wall being built by Israel in the West Bank has stopped Palestinian extremists from carrying out suicide attacks in Israel. His comments, made in an interview with Financial Times Deutschland, make him the first high-level EU diplomat to publicly say that the barrier has fulfilled its aim.
"The barrier has drastically sunk the number of attacks", said the Belgian diplomat.
However, although he admitted that the number of attacks has fallen, he told FT Deutschland that it does not mean that he finds the wall good.
No wonder Europeans like Kerry so much; they think alike. Posted by Orrin Judd at October 8, 2004 10:02 AM
So the wall works? Israelis are protected?
A damned shame.
And just one more reason why the Palestinians will be justified in battling the Jewish state to extinction....
Posted by: Barry Meislin at October 8, 2004 10:21 AMBesides, that Belgian diplomat has it all wrong (of course), though small solace for him.
It's merely the number of successful attacks that has fallen. The ones that have been foiled due to the wall AND tough Israeli interdiction in Palestinian territory are a dozen per month on the average.
No one ever hears about them, though. Or wants to, apparently. (Or apparently needs to, according to the MSM and their ilk.)
On the other hand, he'll still be able to rejoice at the odd Palestinian and/or friends' success.
Posted by: Barry Meislin at October 8, 2004 10:25 AMEven the fact that the diplomat admitted the wall works has caused quite a stir in the Belgian media. It is as if he praised Hitler, or worse yet, president Bush. The man is lucky to be a carreer civil servant and thus almost impossible to fire. Otherwise he would already have been among the vast army of jobless in Belgium.
Posted by: Peter at October 8, 2004 11:37 AMThe last paragraph and OJ's comment are just too funny. The scary part is that this twisted logic passes as acceptable, even normal, with a huge majority of the media. Why, JK may even win this election with logic of this sort. It's certainly his strong point with those who can swallow it.
Posted by: D. L. Meadows at October 8, 2004 2:15 PMBefore the Iraq war, there was a lot of debate about whether "antiwar" activists are actually antiwar or on the other side. Two points of evidence that they are on the other side:
1. They oppose a wall which will serve only to prevent attacks.
2. They oppose missile defense, a "weapon" system intended only to destroy weapons fired in anger. Frequently, they will speak of wanting the horrific doctrine of mutually assured destrunction instead.
Posted by: Kevin Colwell at October 8, 2004 3:54 PMWell, the wall is a little slyer than that. The wall is completely justified as an effective prophylactic against attacks. However, despite what the Israeli government says (and how to they train themselves not to smile while saying it?) the wall obviously counts as a "fact on the ground" when it comes to a final settlement. How the Palestinians managed to put themselves in this position is beyond me, but I suppose now they've got the Jews right where they want them.
