THEIR STRUGGLE:
Union protesters swarm Bush campaign offices (OSCAR CORRAL, 10/06/04, Miami Herald)
Scores of union protesters opposed to President Bush's stand on overtime payments stormed into pro-Bush campaign offices in Miami, Orlando and Tampa on Tuesday, chanting slogans and shoving a few staffers, police said. The demonstrations were part of a union protest in key swing states against the Bush administration's attempt to eliminate overtime pay for certain jobs, union activists said.
In Miami, a group of more than 100 people, wearing orange T-shirts, poured into the Republican headquarters at 850 NW 42nd Ave. (Le Jeune Road), then dashed onto Le Jeune. They blocked traffic for about 10 minutes before jumping into two buses and leaving, police said.

My Dad keeps telling me that I should care about the new overtime rules...but I don't. He keeps pulling this fictional Kentucky Fried Chicken assistant manager who is going to lose time-and-a-half and thus won't be able to get braces for his daughter or some such nonsense. I ask if that manager is neighbors with Reagan's made up welfare queen. The conversation goes downhill from there.
Posted by: Governor Breck at October 6, 2004 9:16 AMDecisions, decision, buy braces for the child or be able to attend her school and /or sporting events.
Can't one do both? Choose OT sometimes and events others?
Governor:
If you could take OT as days off at that workplace you'd be done for the year in September, no?
Posted by: oj at October 6, 2004 9:47 AMIf you know any union guys, you know they're really up in arms over the new overtime rules. Congress is feeling the pressure, because the House reversed its earlier vote last week and now opposes the rules. I think it could cost Bush any chance of winning the more heavily unionized swing states like Michigan, New Jersey, and Washington.
Posted by: Tom L at October 6, 2004 9:57 AMYeah, with this new position I'm in (the missionary) that sounds about right. New Hampshire has some goofy rules about overtime that my capitalist masters use to thwart any attempt at flex time.
