Japan Ruling Party Executive Slams Kerry on N.Korea (Reuters, 10/15/04)

"I think there would be trouble if it's not President Bush," Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe told a radio program, Kyodo news agency reported.

"For instance, Mr Kerry wants to handle the North Korean issue bilaterally, which is out of the question. We're now in the era of multilateralism," Takebe was quoted as saying.

This was in today's Best of the Web, so we would usually leave it alone. Accusing Kerry of being unilateral in a multilaterial world, though, makes it too good to pass up.

I guess Japan isn't one of those "world leaders" that support Monsiur Kerry.

How can Japan be a world leader? They don't even make foie gras. Have you ever tasted Japanese wine? C'est affreux! They don't have a lot of highly educated unemployed people in black turtleneck sweaters and berets sipping pastis in cafes and discussing the meaning of life. They even have the nerve to manufacture products that function properly and that people want.

The word I have from a knowledgeable Japanese is that Takebe is a fool. He used to be the agriculture minister who downplayed a widespread contaiminated food problem a couple of years ago. Now this same fool is being recycled in Junichiro Koizumi's latest government re-shuffling. Same reshuffling that has a former nurse serving as the Attorney General. Japan is a land of hard working, heavy saving people with a strong and sometimes effective bureaucracy; but, the country is not exactly a power house in the area of elected leadership. I would seriously disregard their opinions on who is the best choice for US President.

That's funny. I not only seriously, but completely, disregard foreigner's opinions on the choice for US President. If they want to have a say in the matter, they know what to do----move here, become a US citizen, and then they can vote for their preference.
